Maybe everything just looks bigger up here on the hill at Tucker's Station but Wayne is particularly proud of our Banana Trees.

I enjoyed seeing the photo of Bea Beard's Banana tree a few days ago - I pass by her home on Lowes Lane frequently and never knew that she grew Banana Trees too.

There are always lots of surprises in a gardener's backyard. Hopefully more gardeners will send photos of what's growing in their backyards.

The hardy Banana tree in both photos is a Musa Basjoo.

The Musa Basjoo (Banana) is the hardiest of all the bananas being cold hardy to -20 degrees when mulched properly. It is such a fast grower that sometimes I think I can actually see it grow.

During the summer months it can grow 2 feet or more in a week. While it can fruit given the right temperatures, the fruit is not edible. -Barbara Armitage, President, Adair County Garden Club
