Obituary: Donald E. Doss, 72, Adair Co., KY

Mr. Doss was a member of a highly regarded North Adair Co., KY, family. He was a member of the Columbia Christian Church, and a U.S. Army veteran who will be accorded full military honors. He had long careers in the finance and auto industries, and was a weekly newspaper editor and columnist.

Donald E. Doss age 72 years a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab Center passed away Monday, May 24, 2010 at 6:57pmCT, at Westlake Regional Hospital, Columbia, KY.

The funeral service Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Terry White the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Pellyton Cemetery, with full Military Honors by the local VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, at the funeral home.



Donald E. Doss, Adair Co., KY

He was the son of the late Edgar and Irene Sinclair Doss. He was born Tuesday, October 19, 1937, and died Monday, May 24, 2010, in Columbia, Adair Co., KY, at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 5 days.

Survived by the following:
  • Two daughters: Donna Taylor and husband Ricky of Columbia, KY; and June Anderson and husband Sam of Columbia, KY

  • Two sons: Lewis Doss of Liberty, KY, and Michael Doss of Columbia, KY

  • One brother: Gerald Doss and his wife Ida of Columbia, KY

  • Eight grandchildren

  • One step-granddaughter

  • One great grandchild

  • One step great granddaughter

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
He was a member of Columbia Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army, was a former manager for Kentucky Finance Company, and was a salesman for automobile dealerships. He had a long career in journalism, first as long-time editor of the Corydon, IN, Harrison County Press, and later as a newspaper columnist for the Adair Progress. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Mae Lee on July 22, 1992, and later married Joyce Cole who also preceded him in death in 2008.
