Obituary: Orien Chafin, 83, Elizabethtown, KY The father of Dr. Gerald Chafin was an Air Force veteran, a distinguished educator who taught at Sheldon Clark High School and Prestonsburg Community College, a former newspaper columnist. He served as a deacon in the Baptist Churches at Inez and Warfield, KY, and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, KY Orien Chafin, 83, Elizabethtown, KY, died Friday, may 21, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY. The funeral service is Monday, May 24, 2010, at 11amET/10amCT at Brown Funeral Home, 306 College ST, Elizabethtown, KY with Dr. Charles Darland officiating. Burial will be in Elizabethtown Memorial gardens. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 5:30pm-8pmET/4:30pm-7pmCT and after 10amET/9amCT, at the funeral home. Orien Chafin was the son of the late Mike and Sarah Chafin. He was a native of Martin Co., KY, an Air Force Veteran and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a deacon for many years in Inez and Warfield in Martin County. He taught school at Sheldon Clark High School in Martin County and taught four years at Prestonsburg Community College. He was a former columnist for the Mountain Citizen newspaper in Martin Co. for many years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Wanda Williamson Chafin, Elizabethtown, KY, and the following:
