Academic Teams win big at Quiz Bowl State Tournament

Luke Maupin is state's top individual Quiz Bowl scorer! Team members Jake Leibeck, Ryan Montgomery, Jaylyn Bailey, Eddie Franklin, Kyle Mann, Heather Jackson, and Mathew Rogers have impressive afternoons. Adair Co. finishes 3rd Overall, narrowly behind two top teams;, highest finish ever in National Academic Quiz Tournament state championships.
In Governor's Bowl Competition, ACHS had astounding six of 10 top competitors; ACMS had 5 of 10 top competitors.

On April 17, the Kentucky State Quiz Bowl Championship was decided at the University of Louisville. Kentucky's finest teams from the far reaches of the state vied for the title of quiz bowl state champion, and Adair County High School finished 3rd overall, their highest finish ever in the National Academic Quiz Tournament state championships.



Adair fell just short of two of the top teams in the nation, including Paul Laurence Dunbar who is ranked as one of the nation's Top 10 teams in polls.

Luke Maupin No. 1 individual scorer in state

Luke Maupin finished as the state's leading individual scorer in the entire tournament, averaging over 100 points a game, which was an impressive 26 points over the next highest average for the tournament.

Team members putting up impressive afternoons as part of the 3rd place finishing team were Jake Leibeck, Ryan Montgomery, Jaylyn Bailey, Eddie Franklin, Kyle Mann, Heather Jackson, and Matthew Rogers.

Adair, a top seed, dominated early competition

Adair started the day as one of the top 5 seeds, and dominated early matches in the tournament, including 400-plus point victories over Campbell County, Danville, and Grayson County. They defeated Simon Kenton High School to earn a spot in the final 5 of the tournament.

In the final round of 5, the team swept by Russell Independent of Ashland, the 4th place team in the state, and again by Grayson County.

The team's only losses on the day were to state champions Paul Laurence Dunbar and Louisville's DuPont Manual, which finished 2nd and is among the top teams in the nation along with Dunbar.

ACHS has astounding six of 10 top FPS competitors

At the Governor's Cup State Championships in March, twelve Adair County students competed in Individual Future Problem Solving, which were scored over the last month by various evaluators across the state.

After the announcement of results on Tuesday, April 20, Adair County had an astounding 6 total individuals finish in the Top 10 in Middle Grades and High School competition.

In Middle Grades, Adair placed 5 individuals in state's top 10 individuals

In Middle Grades competition (grades 7-9), Adair placed 5 in the top 10 among all individuals in the state.

Alison Feese and Kyle Castaneda finished in an unbreakable tie for a share of 5th Place. Amber Turner finished in 7th Place while Abby Walker and Sarah McQuaide shared 8th Place overall.

In the High School division (grades 10-12), first year member Ryan Bloyd finished just outside the Top 5 by capturing 6th place.

This is the high school's fifth year in a row of placing in the state's Top 10 in Individual Future Problem Solving. The number of competitors competing across the divisions at! this year's Individual FPS State competition was 244 students.
