Goodwill Industries will break ground at Holladay Place today

Columbia grows

The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce will join Goodwill Industries in a ground-breaking ceremony today, Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 11amCT, at the construction site at Dohoney Trace at the intersection with Patricia Trail in Holladay Place. The store will be one of the largest in the area, at over 10,000 square feet. Site work is already underway.

At the groundbreaking for the new 10,000 s.f. Goodwill Industries donation and sales center at Holladay Place, were, front row, from left Paul A. At Goodwill Industries groundbreaking

Former Adair County Judge Richard L. Walker is a prime mover behind the development of Holladay Place in Columbia, KY. He's fond of saying that big news is coming, "Too big for the internet, too big for ColumbiaMagazine." Above, he was at one of those events, the ground breaking for the big 10,000 s.f. Goodwill Industries building, now scheduled to be open in late August or early September. While this photo can be squeezed onto the internet, Walker says we haven't seen anything yet. The development of Holladay Place has been one of his lifetime dreams, and is now rapidly coming to fruition.

Sue Stivers has reasons to smile

"These are exciting times in Columbia and Adair County," Sue Stivers, Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair Co. Economic Developoment Authority, is saying these days. She's rarely seen without a big smile. She's currently riding a string of successes on projects she and other current and past members of the Economic Develpment Authority have been working on for a few decades. Here she was at the latest groundbreaking, for Goodwill Industries in Holladay place, on Wednesday, April 14, 2010.

South Central Kentucky writer and author Geniece Marcum was on hand at the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Goodwill Industries store in Columbia, KY. Mrs. Marcum is the editor of the Senior Quest and author of "The Best of Senior Quest," a collection of favorite columns from the series. She's the matriarch of the family, and is currently living in Columbia, KY, doing research for articles for Senior Quest and researching the genealogy of her old Turner family relatives from the Inroad area of Adair County. One famous writer in her family was Joseph Turner, who wrote in Adair County and Metcalfe Co. newspapers under the pen name Paul Revere. In the background of this photo is the Grider Hill Pass on KY 61 South.
