Whether Cumberland is Big River depends BJ Fudge: Cumberland is big river owing to where you are whether the Cumberland is a Big River. The tiny stream does become a Big River, Fudge concludes, only after the vast volumes from the mighty Powell's Creek, Harrod's Fork, and Little Renox watersheds pour into it About: Scenic Cumberland Co., KY: Cold cold river water By B.J. Fudge After convening a meeting of the left and right sides of my brain I have concluded that both Mr. Oakes and the Triad of Geographic Academia were correct. >From the Eastern-most regions of Harlan County to just below Loch Cumberland I would say that the more traveled Political Trifecta would have been right in labeling the Cumberland River as a small river. However the more locally topographically savvy Oakes would have been correct in that as the Cumberland flows through Burkesville and to all points downriver it is indeed a big and mighty river. After Crocus which gathers up vast volumes of water from Powell's Creek, Harrod's Fork, and West Fork and the Big and Little Renox Watersheds empty into the Cumberland then it would fill the bill as a Big river. I suppose that politicians and public personalities have always been "spinning" the facts to prove their points. -Billy Joe Fudge This story was posted on 2010-04-12 17:14:48
