Obituary: Doris Jean McGowan, 69, Russell Co., KY

Doris Jean McGowan was a member of a very large, highly regarded family. She was one of 13 children of the late Jewell and Lilburn Sullivan of Russell Co., KY. She was a Separate Baptist and a homemaker

Doris Jean McGowan, 69, Old Sano RD, Russell Springs, KY, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at her residence.

The funeral service will be Friday, April 2, 2010, at 1pmCT, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 E. Main ST, Russell Springs, Ky, with Bro. Terry Goodin and Bro. Michael Lee officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the funeral home.



Doris Jean McGowan, 69, Russell Co., KY (1941-2010)

Doris Jean Sullivan McGowan was the daughter of the late Jewell Harvey Sullivan and Lilburn Sullivan. She was born Wednesday, February 5, 1941 and died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 25 days.

She was a member of the Separate Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, John McGowan, and the following:
  • Four children: Phyllis Jefferies, Kenneth McGowan, Jeff McGowan, and Shirley Browder, all of Russell Springs, KY

  • Six brothers: Donald Sullivan, Jerry Sullivan, and Glendal Sullivan, all of Russell Springs, KY; Larry Sullivan and Alvis Sullivan, both of Columbia, KY; and Kermit Sullivan, Clayton, IN

  • Two sisters: Virginia Patterson, Bloomington, IN; and Bernice Nichols, Roopville, GA

  • Seven grandchildren

  • Six great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifton, Harold and Glendo Sullivan; and two sisters, Albert Wood and Judy Sullivan.

Bernard Funeral Home, Russell Springs, Ky, is in charge of arrangements.
