Obituary: Mr. James Emmanuel Abell, 88, Adair Co., KY

Mr. Abell was the head of a large, highly respected family. He leaves 81 direct living descendants. He was a USPS Rural Letter Carrier for 31 years and was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church

James Emmanuel Abell, 88, of Knifley Road, Columbia, KY, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11amET/10amCT,, Saturday, January 30, 2010, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 5075 KY 1547, Liberty, KY, in the Clementsville, Community of Casey, Co., KY, with burial in the church cemetery, withFather Clark, officiating. Visitation will be 5-8pmET/4-7pmCT, Friday, January 29, 2010, at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home, 503 E. Main ST, Campbellsville, KY.



Pallbearers: James Roger Abell, Jessie Garland Abell, David Joseph Abell, Stanley Eugene Abell, Robert Emmanuel Abell, and Paul Wimsatt Abell.

James Emmanuel Abell, 88, Adair Co., KY (1921-2010)

He was the son of the late Joseph Clarence and Mary Elizabeth Abell. He was born Thursday, October 13, 1921, and died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 13 days.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Marshall Abell, and two grandchildren, James Marshall Abell and Mary Catherine Rose.

He was a retired farmer and USPS Rural Letter Carrier for 31 years and a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Bessie Abell, and the following:
  • Ten children and spouses: James Roger and Wanda Abell of Columbia, KY; Jessie Garland and Linda Abell of Campbellsville, KY; David Joseph and Angie Abell of Knifley, KY Stanley Eugene Abell and companion Danna Simpson, of Liberty, KY; Robert Emmanuel and Kay Abell of Liberty, KY; Paul Wimsatt and Cathy Abell of Bowling Green, KY Mary Diann and David Conquest of New York, Janis Louise Turner of Campbellsville, KY; Abbie Catherine and Donald Eugene Rose of Colorado: and Sallie Marie and Freddie Marples of Knifley, KY

  • Thirty-one grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren

  • Two brothers: Allen Thomas Abell and Joseph Clarence Abell, Jr., both of Ohio

  • Two sisters: Alene Wolford of Mt. Washington and Elizabeth Jane Strohmeier of Louisville.
Lyon-Dewitt Funeral Home, 503 East Main ST, Campbellsville, KY, is in charge of arrangements.
