Obituary: Betty Sue Bankhardt McCammish, 88, Winchester, KY

She was the widow of Douglas W. McCammish, her husband of 65 years and with whom she worked in McCammish Mfg. Co, the parent of the Adair County Division of the company, headed by her son, Doug McCammish Jr., Columbia, KY. Mrs. McCammish attended DePauw University and Cincinnati Art Academy and was a member of First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, WInchester, KY

Betty Sue Bankhardt McCammish, 88, of Winchester, much loved wife for 65 years to the late Douglas W. McCammish, passed away Monday, December 28, 2009, at her home after a long illness.

Memorial services will be Thursday, December 31, 2009, at 11amET by Rev. Jeff Sames and Dr. James Mahoney at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main ST., Winchester, KY. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009, from 6pm-8pmET at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice East, 407 Shoppers Drive, Winchester, KY, or First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, 24 E. Hickman ST, Winchester, KY.



She was a native of Ft. Thomas, KY, and the daughter of the late Elmont V. and Mary Porter Bankhardt.

Betty Sue and Doug were married April 24, 1943, while Doug was in the service, prior to leaving for overseas duty. They were high school sweethearts at Highland High in Ft. Thomas and lifetime members of HHS Alumni Association, always cheering for the "Bluebirds" in Kentucky prep football.

She attended DePauw University and Cincinnati Art Academy after high school, majoring in commercial art. Betty Sue and Doug moved to Winchester in 1948 to participate in a family business, which still exists.

She was a devoted homemaker, a skilled seamstress, and loved having her family around her. She also enjoyed music, bridge, bowling, and Tripoli.

She and her husband, Doug, were members of First Christian Church of Winchester for many years.

Mrs. McCammish is survived by the following:
  • Two sons and daughters-in-law: Douglas W. (Marcella) McCammish, Jr., of Columbia, KY, and Mark (Shirley) McCammish of Winchester, KY

  • Two daughters and son-in-law, Molly M. (Craig) Stotts and Mary M. Davis also of Winchester, KY

  • Fourteen grandchildren: Margaret McCammish Rodgers of Georgia, Douglas W. McCammish III of Colorado, Susanne McCammish Monnin of Ohio, Charles P. McCammish of Texas, Duncan M. McCammish of Winchester, Annie Stoots Sotski of Winchester, Robert Tucker Davis of Bowling Green, KY, Winnie Stotts Blythe of Georgetown, Ky., Luke M. Davis of Bowling Green, Ky., John Caleb Stotts of Winchester, Isaac M. Stotts of Winchester (serving in Iraq), Eliza Stotts of Lexington, Petra Stotts of Winchester, and Kenan G. Stotts of Winchester

  • Two step-grandchildren

  • Fourteen great-grandchildren
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Bankhardt Rice and Mary Catherine Bankhardt Knaebel.
