Amateur Radio Club event at K-Mart, Russell Springs, KY

Cub, Boy, and Girl Scouts are especially invited

The Public and all Cub, Boy and Girl Scouts are invited to experience how local radio operators help authorities during times of emergencies, with communications - when nothing else -electric, phones, Internet, cell phones, or Tv - is working at an event to be held In the Kmart Parking lot, 301 N Highway 127, Russell Springs, KY, on Saturday, October 17, 2009, between 11am and 3pmCT.



The volunteers of the Central Kentucky Amateur Radio Club will provide hands-on demonstrations of radio communications, which is designed to be set up anywhere, and how they contact other radio operators to summon help where needed, and will explain how they also assist authorities in finding out where to send that help! Messages sent over the radio by computers, and voice, will be done by anyone wanting to try.

Recognized for their assistance by many organizations, such as the Red Cross, FEMA, and Emergency Management Agencies of every state, these radio operators, nicked named Hams, will be showing the public, and especially scouts, how to be prepared.

Central Kentucky Amateur Radio Club President, Dale Bennett, Columbia, KY, said, "We are very happy to offering the Scouts the opportunity to work towards some of their badges, giving them the opportunity to further the scouting goal of being prepared.Everyone and anyone is invited to stop by, experience talking to someone on the radio in another part of the state, or country, or even possibly the world, and learn more about the hobby of Amateur Radio.

Scouts participating will also be able to earn a special uniform Patch, as the event is timed to be part of a world wide gathering of Scouts' on the Air or JOTA, short for Jamboree On The Air.More information can be found by searching the key-word "JOTAs" or by visiting www.HelloRadio.org, on the internet.
