Obituary: Pina Lee Pyles, 90, Columbia, KY

Mrs. Pyles was a beloved Adair Countian, the matriarch of one of Adair County's most distinguished families. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she was church organist and pianist for many years and was a member of the Trinity Trio and a homemaker. Her husband, Rollin K. Pyles, survives.

Pina Lee Pyles, age 90 years, of 703 Coy Trace Columbia, KY passed away Friday, August 21, 2009 at 6:41pm at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY after an illness.

The funeral service is Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Colulmbia, KY, with Rev. William Davenport the officiating clergy.Interment in the New Hope Cemetery, 131 New Hope Church RD, Columbia, KY, in the Ella community of Adair County. The family request visiting after 3:00pmCT on Monday, August 24, 2009, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Pallbearers: Tony Bolt, Phillip Davidson, Dr. Barry Dick, Dr. Chuck Giles, Bryan Rich, and Victor Rich.

Pina Lee Pyles was born January 8, 1919, the daughter of the late O.L. and Ether Sapp Rich of Adair County, KY and died Friday, August 21, 2009, at 6:41pmCT at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY, at the age pf 90 years,7 months, and 13 days

Survived by her husband, Rollin K. Pyles of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Three sons: Jerry Pyles and wife Carmen, Columbia, KY; Harry Pyles and wife Paula, Simpsonville, KY; and Mark Pyles and wife Christie of Columbia, KY

  • One daughter: Sheila Bryant and husband Larry, Columbia, KY

  • Three brothers survive: Audie Rich, Bowling Green, KY; Stanley Rich, Columbia, KY; and Malcolm Rich of Cincinnati, OH

  • Four sisters survive: Zella B. Cundiff, Columbia, KY; Evelyn Bolt of Osgood, IN; Nadine Giles, Columbia, KY, and Radine Rich of Columbia, KY

  • Nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Dallas Pyles and an infant daughter Sharon Pyles; by three brothers, Dennis Rich, James Rich & Herbert Rich; and by two sisters, Jewell Dick and Hilda Davidson.

Mrs. Pyles was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she served as church organist and pianist for many years, She was a longtime member of the Trinity United Methodist Women's Organization and sang with the Trinity Trio for many years and was a homemaker.
