Taking the second place award and a $50 prize was Casey County, KY resident Josh Rodgers' image of "A Girl in Flowers." Third place honors and $25 went to Lisa Russell of Russell Springs, KY, and her photo of "Cumberland Falls State Park."

The contest, titled Our Place On Earth: The Beauty of South Central Kentucky, was a collaborative effort between the club and SCC's Earth Day Celebration committee.

Winners were announced and presented cash prizes during the college's Earth Day activities on Sunday, April 19, 2009.

Honorable mention awards were presented to Ashley Stephens, Janis Hatfield, Marcy Anderson, Amy Zollner, Veronica DeBord and Deana Barrett.

Media Matters Club President Cathryn Patrick said she was very pleased with the contest.

"The judges had a very difficult time making a decision because of the quality of photographs received," she said.
