Obituary: Larry Cornell, 86, WWII Army veteran

Mr. Cornell, a native of Otego, NY, was a valued member of the Breeding Community. His marriage had lasted 67 years. Mr. Cornell was retired from Bendix Corporation in NY, and had been past master of the Otego, NY Masonic Lodge. He was active in the Odd Fellows. He was a member of the Otego Methodist church and attended Chestnut Grove Community Church.

Lawrence "Larry" Vernor Cornell, 86, 166 Chestnut Grove Road, Columbia, KY, the Breeding Community, formerly of Otego, NY, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 7:56pm, at the Summit Manor Rehab Center in Columbia, KY.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 30, at 5:30pm at Chestnut Grove Community Church, Breeding, KY. Visitation will begin at 5:00pmCT on Tuesday evening at the church. The family has chosen cremation with interment at a later date in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery in Otego, NY. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



He was born August 27, 1922, the son of the late Vernor and Florence Brainard Cornell of Gilboa, NY.Mr. Cornell is survived by his wife of 67 years, June Dart Cornell, Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Two sons: Jeffrey Steven Cornell, Columbia, KY; and Larry Lyndon Cornell, Binghamton, NY

  • One daughter: Bonnie Austina Budelman, Raleigh, NC

  • Six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lyndon Cornell, and one sister, Gladys Banner.

Mr. Cornell was retired from the Bendix Corporation in Sidney, NY. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, past master of Masonic Lodge #282 in Otego, NY; a member of the Order of Oddfellows, a member of the Methodist Church in Otego, NY, and attended the Chestnut Grove Community Church in Breeding, KY.
