New restaurant at Knifley a few weeks off By Ed Waggener Melinda and Randy Quinn's new restaurant at Knifley, KY, is now only four to six weeks away from opening. The restaurant will be housed in one of Knifley's most revered structures, the former Knifley Grade Center, which is being adaptively restored for its new role in the historic Northern Adair County town. The Quinns have studied several names for the business. For now, "The Old Town Cafe" appears to be the winner. The dining room will be big. It will occupy the school's old gymnasium floor. More than ample parking space is available, left there from days when school busses and staff and teachers' cars had to be accommodated. It's located in a community with a tradition of great food, from the days of Luke Knifley's Cafe to Hatfield's Restaurant, Livermore's famous hamburgers to great Pizza's at Crossroads Store and made to order sandwiches at Baker's Grocery, to great church potlucks and firehouse food, Knifley has enjoyed the best. The Old Town Restaurant will build on that tradition. The menu will be old fashioned country food, with Malissa's mother, noted Jewell Brown, one of the best cooks anywhere, on the staff. The restaurant will off home cooked specialties, with fried chicken, fried fish, barbecue, country ham, and homemade desserts. This story was posted on 2008-06-05 05:43:14
