Obituary: Vera Ethel Davenport, 88

Services for the mother of Bro. Bill Davenport, former pastor of Trinity UMC and UMC Columbia District Superintendent, are today in Greensburg, KY

The funeral service for Mrs. Vera Ethel Davenport will be conducted at 1:00pm, Friday, March 16, 2007, at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg, KY. Bro. David Alexander and Bro. Garnett Wayne Davis will officiate.

Burial will be in the Ladies Chapel Cemetery in Green County.



Pallbearers: Wallace White, Winfred Bonta, ray Perkins, hulin Judd, Gary Ferguson, and Lanny Tucker.

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Ladies Chapel Cemetery. These can be made at the funeral home.

Vera Ethel Davenport

Mrs. Vera Ethel Davenport, daughter of the late Johnny "Bud" Bishop and Viola Shuffett Bishop, was born on Tuesday, June 4, 1918 in Green County, KY, and departed this life on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at her home in Greensburg. She was 88 years, 9 months, and 9 days of age.

She united in marriage to Arvin Davenport on May 29, 1937. Her husband preceded her in death on February 10, 1995. She was also preceded by a son, Charles Davenport, on June 22, 2005.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: William and Bonnie Davenport, Columbia, KY and the following:
  • A daughter-in-law: Vera J. Davenport, Glendale, KY

  • Six grandchildren and their spouses: Jeff and Debbie Davenport, Custer, KY; Kimberly Davenport, Elizabethtown, KY; Michelle and James Hickerson, Owensboro, KY; Todd and Cayce Davenport, Columbia, KY; Adam Stearman, Louisville; and Mollie and Mitchell Quinn, Columbia, KY

  • Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren

  • Three sisters; Vechie Davis and Maurine Hood, both of Greensburg, KY

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
She made a profession of faith in christ and was a member of the Ladies Chapel United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
