Obituary: Hyman Radis Pierce, 79

Mr. Pierce was retired after working in the lumber industry

Hyman Radis Pierce, 79, a resident of Summit Manor Nursing Home, died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at 4:10pm, at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at 1:00pm CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, with Bro. James Walker officiating.

He was a son of the late Robert and Mary Smith Pierce and a former sawmill worker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Geneva Price Pierce, in 2002, and by one brother, J.B. Pierce, and two sisters, Lucille Richards and Delta Patton.

Survivors include the following:
  • Three children and their spouses: David and Sharon Pierce, Mary Katherine and Glen Murphy, and Norma and Joe Collins, all of Columbia, KY.

  • Five grandchildren and spouses: Jean and Randy Hadley, Janet and Rodney Huckaby, Preston Murphy, Dale and Dorothy Murphy, and Sherry and David Holmes.

  • Five great grandchildren and one step great grandchild: Aaron Hadley, Taylor Burton, Catlin Holmes, Hunter Holmes, Lucas Murphy, and Shayann Huckaby

  • Two brothers: Ernest Pierce, Franklin, IN; and James Pierce, Tennessee

  • Two sisters: Dimple Hitch, Columbus, IN; and Nancy Burton, Franklin, IN

  • And several nieces, nephews, and friends
Burial will be in the Columbia Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm CT, Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Grissom Funeral Home.
