Robert Ellis was on site with camera at the ready on Saturday morning, July 4, 2026, for the Independence Day Car Show on the campus of Campbellsville University.

The show was part of the Campbellsville-Taylor County Fourth of July Celebration, which featured events starting on June 29, at locations all over Campbellsville.

Robert writes, "The sweltering heat from the previous week had let up a little, so it was good time to travel over to Campbellsville University to photograph the car show. I find from a photographers standpoint it can be a little bit of a challenge, mostly due to the 'show cars' being positioned so close together...how to isolate and compose a shot; that part can be tricky.

This photo I was fortunate to have it isolated and pretty much all by itself. Here the owner is readying the vehicle with the usual hood and trunk lids in the up position for a more revealing presentation."

Robert writes, "Among all the 'beauties' at the car show there will sometimes be a couple that are still wearing most of their original patina. I appreciate and respect all the efforts the owners have put into the restoration of their vehicles, but for me and the style of photography I like are the ones that have had only minimal restoration.

When I arrived at the show, this old beauty was the first vehicle that caught my eye. Since it was still early in the morning and the lighting was at its best, I took a little extra time taking numerous photos, from lots of angles, trying to capture just the right photo.

It would be nice to see more of these type of antiques at the car shows. I'm not alone with that sentiment, I noticed this one was gathering lots of attention during the show."

Robert writes, "I was experiencing a case of deja vu when I tried to photograph this old muscle car. I felt like I seen it a few weeks back at the Glasgow Kentucky Car Show, but at that show I wasn't happy with the photos I took. Here, the lighting and the how-and-where-it-was-on-display worked out much more to my liking."

Robert writes, "Having made my way around the show a few times, and mostly happy with some possible 'pleasing to me' photos, I then resorted to trying different techniques in an effort to create some out-of-box photos; slices of (maybe glimpses) of photography that take the viewer a little longer to figure things out.

The main focal point in the photo above is the flag, but the reflecting colors from the brick building and the lime green muscle car are doing their best to push it into the abstract. The green muscle car in this photo is leaving the show to be in the parade, which gave me only a split second to take this photograph."
