David Morgan, 71, Russell County, KY (1955-2026)

David G. Morgan, of Russell Springs, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Russell County Hospital. He was 71 years of age.

Born June 29, 1955, in Somerset, he was a son of the late Bartie and Lois Christine Grider Morgan. David was a familiar face to many as a former produce manager at Houchens Market, where he worked for 15 years. He was a talented musician who enjoyed playing bass guitar and piano and was once part of the gospel group “Gideon’s Lamps.” David loved to spend time outdoors, enjoyed golfing and tending to his garden, and was an avid bowler in his younger days. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church.


Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 and-a-half years, Brenda Wooldridge Morgan; a brother, Jerry (and Teresa) Morgan, of Russell Springs; a sister, Shirley (and Orvis) Grider, of Columbia; brother-in-law, Leon (and Mary) Wooldridge, of Columbia; two Godchildren, Morgan Shackelford and Makaylah Hadley; a special friend, Rodney Hadley; and several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Amy Latae Morgan; a brother, Bobby Morgan; a sister, Jane Purcell; a sister-in-law, Linda (and Ralph) Pettyjohn; and a nephew, Tony Grider.

Funeral services are 2:00 PM Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Charles Edwards and Bro. Herschel Lawhorn officiating. Burial will follow in Russell County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will begin after 12:00 PM and continue until the time of services.

Clark Shepherd, Austin Shepherd, Robbie Morgan, Jeremy Morgan, Josh Grider, Jacob Grider, Jay Morgan, Chase Morgan, and Evan Baldwin will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Rodney Hadley, Leon Wooldridge, and Jeff Pettyjohn.
