ACMS excitement builds toward August 6th opening Excitement continues to build as the new Adair County Middle School moves steadily toward completion in preparation for welcoming its first students on August 6, 2026. Adair County Public Schools Superintendent Jason Faulkner recently guided local community leaders and tourism representatives through the facility, showcasing the progress being made on what will soon become one of the district's most modern educational environments. Faulkner, who has frequently opened the construction site for community tours, says sharing the school's progress with the public is one of the most rewarding aspects of the project. Designed for Learning and Student Success The new middle school features an impressive entrance with soaring architecture and abundant natural light. One of the building's most striking features is its two-story library, where large windows create a bright and welcoming environment designed to inspire discovery and learning. District leaders describe the facility as a state-of-the-art learning center equipped with upgraded technology and modern educational spaces throughout. Key features include: . Automated storm doors designed for enhanced tornado protection . Bright classrooms equipped with Smart Boards and modern instructional technology . Dimmable classroom lighting and classroom call-button systems . A large social staircase and gathering area for students . A two-level library featuring glass frontage and a spiral staircase . A band room with direct outdoor access and enhanced acoustics . A cafeteria capable of seating approximately 300 students, complete with an outdoor patio . High-quality classroom furnishings backed by lifetime warranties and QR-code service tracking Athletic Opportunities Expanded The new gymnasium is another point of pride for the district. Faulkner played a significant role in designing the athletic facility to meet the needs of current and future students. Once completed, the gymnasium will become one of five gym facilities on the Adair County Public Schools campus. The expanded athletic space will allow multiple events and tournaments to be hosted simultaneously, creating additional opportunities for student participation and community engagement. Improved Traffic Flow and Student Safety While students and families are accustomed to the current traffic pattern at Adair County Middle School, significant changes are on the horizon. With the new school located adjacent to Adair County High School, district officials are finalizing plans for redesigned vehicle and bus routes. The new configuration is expected to provide smoother student drop-off and pickup procedures while improving traffic flow and safety for families and staff. Photos documenting the transition show buses and vehicles navigating the final days of the current traffic pattern before the new system is implemented this fall. Community Celebration Planned Construction crews have completed the building's exterior, while interior finishing work continues throughout the facility. District officials say a public tour and grand opening celebration will be announced once construction is complete and the school is ready to welcome students. For Superintendent Faulkner, the project represents more than a new building. It is an investment in the future of Adair County students and a promise that generations of learners will have access to a modern, safe, and inspiring place to grow, discover, and succeed.
