Adair Ambulance Service vehicle update The Adair County Ambulance Service board of directors accepted sealed bids for a new Ford F-350 chassis and the remounting of an existing ambulance module in the fall of 2025. The contract for the chassis was awarded to Don Franklin Government and Fleet, while the remounting of the ambulance module was awarded to American Specialty Vehicles through Mid-America Ambulance Sales. Notably, a new Type 1 ambulance typically costs between $250,000 and $300,000. However, utilizing the remount process yielded significant cost savings for the taxing district, ranging from $100,000 to $120,000. This process involves removing the module (patient compartment) from the existing ambulance chassis, refurbishing it with new paint, wiring, air conditioning unit, and electronics, and inspecting the box's integrity to ensure safety for both crews and patients. By adopting this approach, the district can maintain a fleet of safe and reliable ambulances while conserving resources. Furthermore, this method reduces downtime compared to new ambulance purchases, which typically have delivery lead times of 24-36 months.
