Forbes feature highlights Bank of Columbia's 160-year history

By Dr. Mig Feuser - Psi Pro

A community bank with roots stretching back more than a century and a half is now gaining national attention. The Bank of Columbia recently announced it was featured in a special advertising section of Forbes Magazine as part of the bank's 160th anniversary celebration.

"What's a community bank from Columbia, Kentucky doing in Forbes Magazine?" the bank said in a social media post announcing the feature. "The same thing we've been doing since 1866: Serving our customers, supporting our communities, and building relationships that last generations."

The publication feature appeared through Advent Media Group, an independent media company that produces sponsored advertising sections for national publications including Forbes and Fortune magazines. Bank officials noted the feature was a paid placement and clearly labeled as advertising content, but said the opportunity was extended to the Columbia-based institution following independent research by Advent Media Group.

According to information provided by the company, Bank of Columbia was selected because of qualities Advent identified in strong regional banking institutions, including "strong community ties," a "reputation for personalized service," and support for local businesses and economic growth.

Advent Media Group Business Manager Tony Pesavento said the bank's long history and local leadership helped make it stand out. "Specifically, your 160-year history, truly local leadership, and support of many pillars of your community signaled to Advent a bank with a strong reputation and deep community commitment," Pesavento wrote in information shared by the bank.

Bank officials emphasized that the published article was written by a Forbes-affiliated journalist after interviews with bank representatives. The bank did not author the story but did provide photographs for the feature, which were taken by local photographer Alex Stratton of Alex Stratton Photography.

Andrea Feese, Director of Marketing & Digital Products of Bank of Columbia, also jokingly referenced sharing magazine space with entertainment icon Dr. Dre, saying, "Sharing a cover with Dr. Dre wasn't on our bingo card either."

Founded in 1866, Bank of Columbia remains one of the oldest locally headquartered financial institutions in the region. Over the decades, the bank has continued to expand its services while maintaining a strong presence in community events, local development efforts and support for area organizations.

The Forbes feature comes during the bank's milestone 160th anniversary year and highlights the continued role community banks play in rural Kentucky communities.
