Proclamation for National Police Week 2026

City of Columbia | Assistant to the Mayor

Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots proclaimed May 10, 2026 through May 16, 2026, as National Police Week to show support to local law enforcement officers, including Columbia Police Department, HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas) and Adair County Sheriff's Office, and to honor the service of all law enforcement officers and their sacrifices.

Mayor Hoots met with Columbia Chief of Police Evan Burton, Officer Travis Bell, Detective Scott Hammond, and Sergeant Trevor Foster for the proclamation signing on Friday, May 15, 2026, in City Hall.

Proclamation for National Police Week 2026

  • Whereas, Mayor Hoots and City Council for Columbia, Kentucky salute the men and women who do the difficult and dangerous work of safeguarding our communities. Police Officers around the nation understand the tremendous responsibility bestowed upon them in protecting the freedom and liberty of all citizens;

  • Whereas, the men and women of the Columbia Police Department, HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas) and Adair County Sheriff's Office are dedicated to protecting all Columbia residents and visitors with respect and dignity against deception, violence, and disorder;

  • Whereas, the residents and visitors of the City of Columbia recognize the dangers of the law enforcement profession and understand the difficulties in performing the duties and responsibilities of a law enforcement officer;

  • Whereas, more than 800,000 law enforcement officers serve communities across the United States, including the 15 sworn police officers of the Columbia Police Department;

  • Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Hoots and the City Council for the City of Columbia, Kentucky call upon all people to observe May 10, 2026 - May 16, 2026, as National Police Week and show support to the law enforcement officers who devote themselves to delivering exceptional service to this community and in communities across this great nation.
