Donald Stamper, 90, Russell County, KY Donald Stamper, of the Salem Community, of Russell County, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at his home. He was 90 years of age. Born on May 22, 1935, in Hazard, he was a son of the late Greenberry and Louise Turner Stamper. Donald was a proud US Army veteran. He was very patriotic and deeply loved his country. Donald retired after 30 years as an autoworker for General Motors. Donald was saved and baptized in 1977 and was a faithful member of Pine Grove Separate Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing karaoke and loved spending time and making memories with his singing friends. Donald was a very frugal man with himself, but a very kindhearted and generous man to his family or anyone he met that needed help. Donald is survived by his children, Gwendolyn (and Charlie) Newland, of Russell Springs, Rhonda Dietrich, of Xenia, Ohio, Charles (and Angela) Stamper, of Russell Springs, and Herbert (and Jeannie) Stamper, of Arizona; his grandchildren, Ashlea Pierce, Jeremy Stamper, Amanda Pierce, Kim Chabot, Dale Dietrich, Donald Stamper, Kenneth Stamper, Joseph Stamper, Justin Johnson, Brittany Redmon, Michael Birdwell, Mataya Stamper, Natasha Sapp, Jeffrey Craig Newland, and Elijah Newland; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Dobson Stamper, who passed away on September 12, 2008; his son, Ricky Stamper; his grandson, Phillip Newland; his brother, Johnny Stamper; his sister, Sherry Gobert; and a special friend, Marie Osborne. Funeral services are 1pmCT on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Donald Wilson and Brother Richie Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Springs City Cemetery with full military honors by the Russell County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10 until the time of services on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Donald's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. This story was posted on 2026-04-26 21:40:44
