Alan Bird, 74, Adair County, KY

Alan Chester Bird, 74, passed away January 27, 2026 due to complications from a July 2025 heart attack.

Preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Mary Royer Bird and brother-in-law Richard Standeven. Alan is survived by his wife Anne Barnes and son Stuart Barr, sisters Cynthia Standeven and Barbara Herrbolt (Murray), nieces, nephews, their children and friends.


A native of Minnesota, throughout high school and college, Alan was the National President of DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Alan's world was that of a problem solver continuing throughout his life. A man of many talents, Alan played the Netherlands Carillion located in the Arlington National Cemetery.

The majority of his life was spent in Louisville, KY, Scout Master of High Adventure Troop 315, to Old Louisville Chamber of Commerce, Ghost Tours of Old Louisville and 1300 Block Association participation in St James Court Art Show.

Moving from the world of retail business to robotics to commercial embroiderer to software developer with his company, Universal Design, INC. , "three clicks of the mouse" was his personal software challenge. Active in Mammoth Cave National Park Association and Adair County Arts, lead Alan and Anne to support the arts by building an art gallery, having One Artist Exhibits at a time.
