Happy Earth Day 2026 - how we celebrate For over a quarter of a century Columbia Magazine has been celebrating the people and land of our region - we have the blessings of living in peace, in a magical landscape, green, well watered, level to rolling landscape. Today, Earth Day 2026, we honor and think about how we are caring for our place. From the thousands of photos in our archives, it looks like we're doing a pretty good job. The first Earth Day took place on April 22, 1970. Recognized by many as the birth of the U.S. environmental movement, the nationwide demonstration spurred a dramatic rise in public concern about environmental issues.
