Deadly Monday in Adair, four dead including shooter Adair County Sheriff Gary Roy confirmed that Ryan Sneed, the alleged shooter who took three lives Monday, April 20, 2026, is dead. Reports are that he killed his mother and his aunt in the Mount Carmel area of Adair County, north of Columbia, before going to Chestnut Grove Road in the southern end of the county where he reportedly killed a friend and then barricaded himself. Adair County Sheriff's Deputy Emily Wall was the first on the scene and began taking on gunfire. She is safe and Sheriff Roy said, “she did an excellent job." She was joined by Sheriff's Officers, Columbia City Police, Kentucky State Police, and other first responders as shots were fired throughout the afternoon until Sneed tried to escape through a window and was killed.
