Fred Dorman, 81, Adair County, KY

Frederick Lee "Fred" Dorman, 81, of Columbia, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Born on March 15, 1945, in Clarksville, Indiana, Fred led a life marked by dedication, service, and the warmth of close family ties.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Fred honorably served aboard the USS Eugene A. Greene DD-711 from 1962 to 1966. His commitment to his country was a defining chapter in his life, and it exemplified his steadfast character and sense of duty.

Following his military service, Fred devoted his career to the community as a State Correction Officer, where he carried out his responsibilities with integrity and respect for others. Outside of his professional life, he was a man of varied interests and passions. He found joy in restoring antique furniture, a hobby that spoke to his patience and craftsmanship. Evenings were often spent playing cards or enjoying old western films, pastimes that brought him comfort and a sense of nostalgia.

Fred's deepest happiness stemmed from his family and friends. He treasured his time with his beloved wife, Pat Reliford Dorman, and took immense pride in his sons, Kelly Dorman, alongside his wife Leslie of Richmond, Kentucky, and Kevin "Weazer" Dorman, with his wife April, of Columbia, Kentucky. Fred was a proud grandfather to Kylie Dorman, whose presence was a source of great joy to him. He also shared enduring bonds with his sisters-in-law Jan Dorman, Brenda Dorman Cobb, and Fran Dorman. His affection extended to his cherished dogs, Lacy, Brandy, and the late Bear, who were steadfast companions throughout his life.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Olive Morris Dorman, his brothers Darrell and Glenn Dorman, and his beloved grandson, Cody Layne Dorman. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Funeral services will be 1pmCT Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Columbia Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be on Wednesday after 10.

Bro. Paul Patton will be officiating, and pallbearers will be Justin Dorman, Scott Dorman, Jonathan Dorman, Barry Bardin, Doug Vanarsdale, and Jason Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Sapp, Wally Burress, Bob Bell, Bill Bailey, Jason Reliford, Harold Lawless and his Egypt Christian Church family.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Hosparus Health or the Make-A-Wish Foundation at in memory of Cody Dorman at www.oki.wish.org/codydormanlegacyfund.com

Fred Dorman's life was one of commitment--to his country, his career, and most importantly, to his loved ones. His legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion will forever be remembered by his family and all who knew him.
