Edwin Paul Maggard, 82, WWII Veteran

Services will be held Monday for Edwin Paul Maggard who passed away early this morning in Columbia. The US Army Veteran of World War II will be remembered for having run a substance abuse facility here in the 1970s and as a dispatcher for the Columbia Police Department. He was also an insurance salesman for many years. Visitation begins at 6 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home tomorrow, Sunday, evening.

He was preceded in death by his mother Edna Blanch Maggard and his father Chester Brewer. He was raised by his grandfather Virgil A. Maggard who died in 1958.

Survivors include:
  • Five children and their spouses: Chester and Jean Maggard of Columbia; Edna and Mack Powell of Orlando, FL; Jim and Sheila Maggard of Glens Fork; Marie and Robert Brown of Georgetown; and Joe and Edith Maggard of Winchester

  • Four grandchildren: Rodney and his wife Clara Maggard of Columbia; Melisa Lewis of Richmond; Clint and his wife Vickie Maggard of Columbia; and Jason Maggard of Glens Fork

  • Five great grandchildren: Brendan, Shelby, Jackson, Jasmine and Cody
Graveside services will be held Monday, April 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. (EDT) at the Swiss Colony Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel County with Bro. Fountain Jones officiating.
