Maurine Godbey Means, 92, Casey County, KY

Maurine Godbey Means, of Hurricane Ridge in Casey County, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at her home. She was 92.

She was formerly a custodian at the Casey County courthouse and also farmed. She was a member of Rich Hill Christian Church. She loved music, dancing, writing songs and poetry, and gardening. She also enjoyed a good cup of coffee, front porch sitting, and spending time with all her family.


Born on January 6, 1932, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Sylvia Pittman Godbey.

She is survived by a son, Roger (Beverly) Means of Yosemite; a daughter, Kathy Hatter of Hurricane Ridge; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Julius Leroy Means, who passed away on August 19, 1989; five sons, Lloyd Means, Robin Means, Ronnie Means, Garry Means; and Robert Means; two daughters, Debbie Rose Means and Mary Means; and four brothers, Doc Godbey, Virtreas Godbey, Verlis Godbey, and Eugene Godbey.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Maupin officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 to 1 on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
