Sandra McGowan, 71, Russell Springs, KY (1953-2024) Sandra Lynn Shepherd McGowan, 71, of Russell Springs, KY, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024. She was born on July 5, 1953 to the late William Arvol and Anna Belle Gider Shepherd. Sandra married James McGowan in 1968 and was a long-time, active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She loved playing piano and was always willing to play at church when asked. Sandra also enjoyed singing karaoke, visiting thrift stores, and sewing, particularly making quilts for her family. Known for her caring heart, she always saw the best in others and was ready to help anyone in need. Sandra was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and was proud to keep her home tidy and organized. She will be remembered as a "mother to everyone" who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Shane McGowan; her daughter, Krystal McGowan; her sister, Judy Shepherd McBeath; her sister-in-law, Bonnie McGowan; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chester and Lela Ashbrook McGowan. Survivors include her loving husband, James McGowan; her daughter, Keresa McGowan Bunch of Russell Springs, KY; her brother-in-law, Phillip McBeath of Russell Springs, KY; her grandchildren, Ryan Bunch and Kaylea Cooper (Jason), both of Russell Springs, KY; and her great-granddaughter, Chelsea Bunch of Russell Springs, KY. Funeral services will be held at 2pmCT on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Preston Richardson and Bro. Larold Gosser officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark McQueary, Kyle Weber, Marcus Ryder, Daniel Buster, Allen McGowan, and Jordan Galliher.
