John Richard Smith, 75, Cumberland County, KY John Richard Smith, 75, of Burkesville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. He was born September 24, 1948, to the late John Clifton "Bud" and Georgia (Vincent) Smith. He was of the Christian faith and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. National Guard and was a longtime truck driver. He was also a member of Peolia Church in Albany, KY. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John L. and Alma (Cross) Smith, his maternal grandparents, Roy and Laura Vincent, and his special aunt and uncle, Everett and Fonzie Smith. Survivors include his wife, Linda (Moore) Smith, whom he married on December 25, 1998; his daughter, Misty Dawn (Thomas) Thompson of Connersville, IN; his brother, Wilburn Hall Vincent of Las Vegas, NV; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Barry (Diane) Moore of Indianapolis, IN, Jerry (Brenda) Moore of Dover, TN, Patty (Donnie) Riddle of Burkesville, KY, Sherry (Darrel) Rose of Burkesville, KY, Shelia (Barry Travis) Moore of Indianapolis, IN; his grandchildren, Carsen Thompson, Patrick Thompson, and Nicholas Thompson, all of Connersville, IN; his special cousins, David Smith of Burkesville, KY, and Jeff Vincent of Albany, KY; along with many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2pmCT on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, KY, with Bro. David Stearns, Bert Garmon, Jeff Vincent, and Neal Pointdexter officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery in Cumberland County, KY, with military honors provided by Monticello DAV #105.
