Mary Anne Loy honored for work at Trabue Russell House

By Richard Phelps

What an honor to have the Columbia Adair Chamber meet at the Trabue Russell House - and to be able to present this special award for them.

For the past several years one person has been the driving force behind the preservation, improvements and public awareness of the home of Columbia's founder Daniel Trabue - that one person is Mary Anne Loy.

Upon her retirement she just changed jobs - she has overseen so much here in the addition of historic material to utilize this place as a museum.

She plans and implements many activites here. She hosts an arts show, plant swap days, tea parties, Christmas events - she oversees all showers, meetings and public useage of the historic Trabue Russell House.

She works with the local schools to bring elemetary age children to see the house, to participate hands on with apple cider making, blacksmithing, herbs, textiles, many things from past days.

She has worked tirelessly on the Julia Miller Horton Rose Garden and it is beautiful this year.

Mary Anne has found a historic archietect to devise a plan for correct architectural improvements on the house. She is always working on ideas to make this a better place.

We need more people like Mary Anne Loy!
