Carol Perkins: Easter Sunday

Previous Column: Squirrel Soup

By Carol Perkins

At the bake sale last weekend for the Metcalfe Shoebox Mission, a lady and her friends were browsing through the goodies, and I asked what she had planned for Easter.

She said, "Nothing, it's just another day."

I couldn't hold back. I touched her arm and said, "No, it isn't just another day, but I'm sure you know that."

She nodded to agree, but I'm not sure she did. How many people are like this lady? To them, Easter is just another day.

Most people my age grew up going to Sunday School and church, and Easter Sunday was the ultimate day for Christians to celebrate. I'm not so sure about the younger generations. Could it be many don't know much about the Bible? Much about Jesus and even less about salvation? That Easter is just another day? If that is the case, whose fault is it they don't know? It is our duty to spread the word, but it is not easy to talk to people who will sometimes become defensive. I'm afraid I fall short.

I always look forward to Easter services and hearing about the resurrection, the same story with the same outcome gives us hope in this confusing world. How would we make it through each day without hope for a better world to come?
