Group Swimming Lessons offered again at Holloway

From Annissa Koekemoer
Volunteer Assistant Swim Coach, Lindsey Wilson College

The Lindsey Wilson College swim team is hosting 3 weeks of group swimming lessons at the Health & Holloway Center, April 1-4, April 8-11, and April 15-18, 2024.

This program has been very popular the last three years, and the children of the community have been able to learn in a fun environment. There will be three consecutive weeks that these group lessons will be hosted, for $45 per week. Parents are welcome to sign up for any week, or multiple weeks. Tadpoles and Guppies have two time slots to choose from, whereas Angel Fish and Stingrays only have one available timeslot per week.

We hope to see many children of the community join us in these fun-filled three weeks! To sign up, there is no HWC membership required. Parents can either sign up at the front desk of the HWC, or email Annissa at koekemoera@lindsey.edu to sign up via email. Payments are due at the front desk of the HWC before the start of their first lesson.

The lessons are broken up into four group-levels, depending on their swimming abilities:

  • Tadpoles are for the youngest ones. Preferably already 3 years old. These children are still getting comfortable in the water, learning how to blow bubbles, floating on their backs, and submerging in the water. Tadpoles will meet from 4:15pmCT to 4:45pmCT or 5pmCT to 5:30pmCT (M-Th)

  • Guppies are a bit more advanced. They already know how to blow bubbles, are comfortable floating, and can jump into the pool with their bodies fully submerged. They can typically also swim mostly unassisted. In this group, they will be introduced to the basics of freestyle and backstroke. Guppies will meet from 4:15pmCT to 4:45pmCT or 5pmCT to 5:30pmCT (M-Th)

  • Angel Fish will be focused on their stroke development. They learn the basics of all four strokes. Angel Fish will meet from 5pmCT to 5:30pmCT (M-Th)

  • Stingrays will be focused on improving their strokes, and maybe working on some diving. Stingrays will meet from 5:30pmCT to 6pmCT (M-Th)

At the end of each week, each child will receive a skills sheet to show what they have learned and what they can still improve on. They will also receive a certificate of completion, signed by their group instructor.
