Tennis: LWC overcomes early deficit to beat Huntington 4-3

Lindsey Wilson men's tennis won their 2024 home opener in a hard-fought match with Huntington (IN) at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex. The Blue Raiders return to action at 2pmCT on Monday, March 4, as Lindsey Wilson hosts No. 16-ranked Grace (IN) at Baughman Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders (4-2) needed a come-from-behind effort to pick up their second straight win over Huntington. Lindsey Wilson won four singles matches after losing the doubles point en route to the team win.

Lindsey Wilson overcame a 2-0 team deficit to win four straight singles matches on courts one, two, three, and five.

Huntington took the early lead in the team match, winning two of the three doubles matches for a 1-0 advantage. Jan Silhavy and Miquel Perez picked up the lone doubles win for the Blue Raiders on court one with a 6-4 win over Agusto Fajardo and Mateo Ameller.

The Foresters (12-6) doubled their lead when Agustin Agosto won in straight sets over Lucas Marques in the fourth-seeded match.

That's when the Blue Raiders started their comeback.

Silhavy -- ranked seventh in the NAIA in singles -- made quick work of Andres Jimenez, winning 6-1, 6-2 on court one to cut the team deficit to 2-1.

Jaume Barcelo used a tiebreak win on court two to propel him to a victory in the second-seeded match. Barcelo won the first-set tiebreak 7-2 and then won six of seven games in the second set over Facundo Hanni Elias to even the team match 2-2.

Anatoliy Voloshyn gave the Blue Raiders their first lead of the day on court five. Voloshyn defeated Cristian Rodriguez 6-2, 6-4 to push Lindsey Wilson into a 3-2 team lead with the third straight singles win.

Perez notched his second win of the day with a comeback win to claim the decisive point for the Blue Raiders. After falling a set down to Pablo Lopez on court three, Perez won back-to-back sets by identical 6-4 scores to give the Blue Raiders the team win.

Huntington won the day's final match on court six in the 4-3 Lindsey Wilson win.
