Short term rental information shared

Adair County Tourism Director Paige Nickel said, "We didn't have a full house Thursday night for the short term rental informational come and go, but we had some great conversations with those who did come."

The following represents a few of the points shared in the meeting:

Short-Term Rentals 101
Informational Session

What is the Tourism Commission?
Created by County Ordinance 2023.2.8 with the purpose of marketing and promoting tourism in Adair County. The County appointed Paige Nickel as Executive Director in March 2023. The goal of The Adair County Tourism and Convention Commission and Executive Director is to put more "heads in beds" for our short-term rental managers.

What is the Transient Room Tax on Short Term Rentals?
Created by County Ordinance 2023.2.8, the county tax directly funds the Tourism Commission. Each business with short term rentals (29 days or less) must pay a monthly tax on gross room receipts. This income is vital for funding Tourism.

What does the director do for short-term rental businesses?
The director markets Adair County to draw tourists to stay at short-term rentals.

How many short-term rental businesses are there in Adair County?
January 2023 - 9 short-term rental businesses
January 2024 - 31 short term rental businesses

New kiosks will promote Columbia and Adair County

2024-02-23 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Jackie Montgomery.

Adair Tourism leaders met with Tourism TV Network this week and purchased two interactive kiosks to go in our community. They will show the website, visitcolumbiaky.com , and show locals and tourists what to do here, where to shop, where to eat, and where to stay in Adair County. Paige Nickel and Amy Mitchum are proud to introduce this kiosk at the Welcome and Development Center offices, 201 Burkesville Street, and another one will be placed in a high traffic area yet to be determined.
