BAVFD answers emergency call in Albany/Clinton County Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department Chief Terry Harvey said they were contacted at 11amCT Sunday, January 21st - one of the coldest days of last week's winter storm - for help in a neighboring county. Kentucky Emergency Management asked the BAVFD for help with the crisis situation in Albany, Clinton County where the main pumping station froze and their water reserve was out. They'd been dealing with problems all during the storm. They don't have the number of tanks throughout their county that Adair has. BAVFD has a tanker able to haul potable drinking water and was able to send two men, Captain Brandon Harvey and Firefighter Roger Firkins, with the truck. They went to Albany's nearest water district in Static, TN and brought it back to Clinton. In addition to serving the residents, the huge employer the chicken processing plants in Albany, had to have water. BAVFD hauled water all day Sunday, 3,000 gallons at a time, for a total of 15,000 gallons to help them. Meanwhile, during the days of ice, snow and below freezing weather, the department made 8 runs (3 fires and 4 medical in addition to the one assist to Clinton County.) Operations in extreme weather such as that week are very hard on personnel and equipment has to have extra care to keep pumps from freezing. Their team has 5 EMTs and one paramedic. The Harvey's say they really appreciated acknowledgement from Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell who personally called and thanked the department for their service. To make a donation to help, checks can be sent to the BAVFD, P.O. Box 5, Breeding, KY 42715. This story was posted on 2024-01-26 09:09:08
