Letter: Anise Seed is NOT Star Anise Comments re: Letter: Star anise and dogs By Marie Freeman I appreciate your post so we can clarify--never give a canine Star Anise. Anise seed in proper safe amounts for pets is widely used. I might add the anise seed a nice surprise for me not only for my canine, but also added to homemade bread :-) Star Anise and Anise Seed are not related. Star Anise comes from an evergreen shrub. Anise seed is related to parsley, these two plants are not from the same plant family--star anise is from the magnolia whereas anise seed is from the parsley family. Including a link on the properties of Star Anise for human consumption, but never canine: Star anise (Illicium verum): Chemical compounds, antiviral properties, and clinical relevance - PubMed From a human perspective, Star Anise is very beneficial, from a canine perspective not true! However, anise seed has been beneficial with canines in proper doses. For humans, Star Anise was used for the compound of Tami flu. With all herbs, they are basically a drug you have to do research and understand before you apply them for benefit. This story was posted on 2024-01-06 12:06:36
