Thanksgiving activities 1938 By JIM This image (see photo with article) graced the top center of the front page of the Adair County News the day before Thanksgiving, 1938. In a twist of irony, sports news consumed nearly 20% of the front page space. An article about the Linsdey Wilson basketball team (captained by one John Burr, lately of Toledo, Ohio), the individual players, an upcoming Blue Raiders v "old timers" game, and the upcoming season schedule occupied just short of a full column, and the sad news of the Columbia Red Hounds come-from-ahead loss to the Burkesville Panthers took a chunk out of another column. Elsewhere on page one, details of the annual Thanksgiving services in Columbia earned a headline and four sentences of text across the fold. This story was posted on 2023-11-22 13:56:08
