Young receives Non-Tenured CU Faculty Award By Gerard Flanagan, news writer and photographer, Office of University Communications Troy Young, instructor in mathematics at Campbellsville University, received the Non-Tenured Faculty Award at the university's first chapel service. Dr. Donna Hedgepath, provost and vice president for academic affairs, presented the award to him. Hedgepath said, "The spirit of the Non-Tenured Faculty Award is to highlight a faculty member who embraces servant leadership, displays exceptional teaching performance in the classroom, collaborates with peers and contributes to their content and profession through professional development and scholarly work." About Young, Hedgepath said, "Beyond being an excellent classroom teacher and academic advisor, this faculty member spends countless hours serving his students, his community and his church. The legacy he built through many years of teaching and coaching at the local high school has extended into his career, with community members still seeking his help in various capacities. "He willingly volunteers many hours tutoring not just his current students but any student who seeks his help." Hedgepath also noted Young's commitment to Christ. "He is not just a dedicated faculty member but a true servant leader in his church and community," she said. "Campbellsville University is blessed to have such a high caliber Christian educator and leader in Mr. Troy Young." Hedgepath read several comments submitted about Young. One comment read, "Mr. Young is the best professor. He cares so much about his students and is truly amazing at teaching. He is always there when anyone needs help or has a question and is always open to sit down and fix any kind of confusion or problems." Another comment said Young "was always up to help his students if they needed it, even if they had to stay after class, which is something I really appreciated because I take my grades very seriously. I hope to know Mr. Young years down the road." Young began his career at Campbellsville University in 2016 after teaching mathematics at Taylor County High School from 1989 to 2016. "I'm extremely humbled and honored to be the recipient of this award," Young said. "I'd like to sincerely thank the CU administration and my math colleagues for allowing me to be a part of this faculty and for helping make this campus such a happy, special place. He coached boys' basketball for 23 years at Taylor County High School and football, tennis and golf at Taylor County. Young received the Campbellsville University Servant Leadership Award for the 2019-2020 academic year. "God has blessed me with 34 years in the world's most rewarding profession, and I give glory to Him for any success I might enjoy, whether great or small," Young said.
