From Chris Taylor, Chief
Executive Director Fire-Rescue-EMS
Campbellsville Fire-Rescue

Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of a drowning at the Green River Lake State Park at 5:34pmET on Sunday, June 4, 2023. Upon arrival, firefighters secured the scene, interviewed witnesses and deployed public safety divers. It was determined that a 37-year-old male was underwater and unaccounted for.

At approximately 6:30pmET, rescue efforts switched to a recovery operation. Sonar operations, dive operations and ROV operations was conducted until early morning hours with no success due to the large amount of bottom debris.

During operations on Monday, personnel conducted side scan operations and located a potential target, which was confirmed with KYFW tow-fish sonar. Special operations divers were deployed to the target location, where they found the missing subject in 32' of water in heavy brush.

No other civilian injuries were reported. One special operations diver did sustain a minor laceration during dive operations that required stitches. The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife and Taylor County Coroner's Office.
