LCDHD awarded $250K OAAC Grant

From Jeff Neagle
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

On April 27, 2023, Lake Cumberland District Health Department (LCDHD) was awarded a $250,000 grant by the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Committee (OAAC) in Frankfort. The committee is a part of the Office of the Attorney General. LCDHD was one of only 24 organizations to receive funds in the initial phase and the only health department.

In dealing with the opioid crisis, the focus for LCDHD is on public and preventative health.

"We will use the funds to continue and expand work that we do in local correction centers and in the drug courts in our 10-county area," said Laura Woodrum, Director of Nursing at LCDHD. "Our program works with those at-risk or currently affected by opioid use disorder. Our staff will be using evidence-based curriculum related to self-management and recovery."

"This funding is a vital resource to combat the opioid crisis in the Lake Cumberland District," said LCDHD Executive Director Amy Tomlinson. "I think it speaks to the strength of our program and staff to be included in the first round of funding."

The grant is part of the initial disbursements by the OAAC to assist Kentucky organizations combating the opioid epidemic through prevention, treatment, or recovery services.
