Mattie Guffey, 82, Russell County, KY (1940-2023)

Mattie I. Guffey, of Jamestown, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, at her home. She was 82 years of age.

Born on March 29, 1940, in Creelsboro, KY, she was a daughter of the late James Earl and Jessie Marie George Birdwell. Mattie was a farmer, and a retired quality control worker for Fruit of the Loom after 29 years of service. Mattie previously owned and operated a dairy farm with her husband, Alfred. Mattie enjoyed baking and quilting. She loved her family dearly.



Survivors include her husband, Alfred Guffey of Jamestown; her son, Daniel (and Vandra) Guffey of Lawrenceburg; her daughter, Tammy L. (and Charles) Johnson of Russell Springs; three grandchildren, Renee (and Marc) Wurst of Bowling Green, Codee (and Hailey) Guffey and Clay Guffey, both of Lawrenceburg; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Barnett and Edie Kathleen Guffey; and two sisters, Sue Todd and Maye Rexroat, both of Columbia.

In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by four brothers, William Birdwell, Joe Birdwell, Phillip Birdwell, and David Birdwell; and one sister, Eva Rae Garner.

Funeral services are 1pmCT Monday, January 16, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Daniel Keaton officiating. Burial will follow in Jack Lawless Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 Sunday, January 15, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42501.
