Carrie Kerns, 69, Russell Springs, KY (1953-2023)

Carrie Lee (Smith) Kerns of Russell Springs passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Baptist Health in Lexington, KY with her family by her side. She was 69 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 1pmCT on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Richie Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in the Kerns Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue Monday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.


She was born February 10, 1953, in Cleveland, OH to the late Loe and Leona Bailey Smith.

Carrie enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Joe Kerns of Russell Springs, KY; two sons Joe Kelly Kerns (Melissa) of Richmond, KY, and Matthew Kerns (Keri) of Hiseville, KY; five grandchildren Caleigh, Hunter, Sydney, Ava, and Sawyer Kerns; two siblings Gary Smith (Joann) of Columbia, KY, and Katherine Poulan (Jerry) of Augusta, GA and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Nicholas Kerns and three brothers Larry, Eddie, and Tommy Smith.

Pallbearers will be Eric Kerns, Keith Kerns, Hunter Kerns, Steven Kerns, Kennedy McFarland, and Tony Kerr. Honorary pallbearers will be Sawyer Kerns, Carl Mings, Kyle McFarland, and Clint Smith.
