Dorothy Montgomery, 95, Green Co., KY native (1927-2022)

Dorothy Christine Shuffett Montgomery of Louisville departed this life on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville. She was 95 years old.

The funeral services for Dorothy Christine Shuffett Montgomery will be conducted at 1pmCT on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Greensburg, KY, with Bro. Gary McGaha officiating. Burial will follow in the Ladies Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 11amCT on Sunday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home until time of the funeral service.


Dorothy Christine Shuffett Montgomery, daughter of the late James Hartwell Shuffett and Ettie Green Mays Shuffett, was born on Thursday, December 15, 1927 in Green County.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Louisville Separate Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, loved working in the yard with her flowers and she also enjoyed sewing.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Albert Montgomery on May 19, 1998 having united in marriage on October 6, 1948.

Survivors include a daughter: Linda Gilbert of Madisonville; a son and daughter-in-law: Derry and Marcia Montgomery of Shepherdsville; four grandchildren: Jonathan Gilbert of Madisonville, Jamie and Troy Deddo of Indiana, Joshua and Jessica Montgomery of Horse Branch, and David Gilbert of Madisonville; six great-grandchildren: Andrew Gilbert, Kendall Deddo, Jackson Deddo, Hunter Montgomery, Remmington Montgomery, and Abby Oakley; two great-great-grandchildren: Waverly Oakley and Suede Oakley; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Montgomery was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: John Gilbert; and six sisters and one brother.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gideon Bible Fund or the Ladies Chapel Cemetery Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.
