LWC in 8th of Learfield Directors Cup through winter season

By Christopher Coombs

Lindsey Wilson athletics comes in at 8th place in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings following the completion of winter competitions and scoring, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) officials announced on Thursday.

Lindsey Wilson has 496.50 points after scoring 249.50 points during the winter season. The Blue Raiders picked up 25 points from women's basketball, with 72 points from both men and women's swimming, 14.5 from women's indoor track and field and added 66 points from wrestling. Lindsey Wilson accrued 247.00 points for the fall season.

The Blue Raiders were in fourth place in the standings following fall sports. Lindsey Wilson football added 83 points to the final ranking for its third-place finish in the NAIA Football Championship Series. Football joins men's soccer and women's soccer who both finished in 11th with 57 points as women's volleyball took 17th to accrue 50 points.

Indiana Wesleyan leads the field with 647.00 points as Marian (Ind.) is second with 620.75 points. Grand View (Iowa) is third with 617.25 points, Indiana Tech is fourth with 614.50 and Midland (Neb.) is fifth with 579.00 points.

Mid-South Conference member Cumberlands (Ky.) sits just ahead of the Blue Raiders in 6th with 576.50 points. The MSC is well represented as 12 full-time member schools are featured in the standings with 10 programs cracking the top-100 across the nation.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in 13 sports during their championships. The NAIA must count four sports -- men and women's basketball, men's soccer and volleyball -- with the remaining nine coming from any of the remaining championship sports.

Midseason standings are unofficial. Official standings will be released upon completion of the spring season once final results have been compiled on June 16.
