Cosby Powell, 86, Adair Co., KY native (1935-2022)

Cosby Powell of Louisville passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the Norton Hosparus Inpatient Unit in Louisville. He was 86 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Gene Conover officiating. Burial will follow in Bearwallow Cemetery, with full military honors presented by V.F.W. Post 6097.

Visitation is requested after 11amCT on Friday.


He was born April 10, 1935, in Adair County, to the late Olen and Emma Lena Burton Powell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Powell, five brothers, Raymond, Gilbert, Robert Lee, Ray and Lloyd "Tub" Powell and one sister, Ruth Tress.

Cosby served his Country in the U.S. Navy, was a member of American Legion Shawnee Post 193 in Louisville and a former store manager for Speedway.

Survivors include:
  • One daughter and son-in-law - Angela and Scott Riley of Louisville
  • Two sons - Rick Powell of Louisville and Steve Powell of New Albany, Indiana
  • Five grandchildren - Gage Riley and his wife Autumn, Branden Riley and his wife Taylor, Jacob Powell, Shane Powell and Angel Wiggers all of Louisville
  • Two great-grandchildren - Gabe Riley and Baylei Powell
  • Several other relatives and friends
