Sheldon Ray Barrett, 79, Russell Springs, KY (1942-2022) Sheldon Ray Barrett of Russell Springs passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Russell County Hospital. He was 79 years old. Funeral services will be held at 2pmCT on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Wilson Funeral Home, 391 East Steve Wariner Drive, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Darrin Blair officiating. Interment will be in Martin Cemetery at Petersburg, Indiana Visitation will be held at NoonCT on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Wilson Funeral Home, 391 East Steve Wariner Drive, Russell Springs, KY. He was born on Monday, October 12 1942, in Winslow, Indiana. Survivors include his wife, Janice Blair Barrett, and two daughters, Lana Schmett, spouse Dean, of Evansville IN, and Amy Leach, spouse Robert, of Anderson IN. He is also survived by his step children, Diana Porter, Darrin Blair (Melissa) and Kenny Luttrell all of Russell Springs, Ky. He is also survived by his extra special granddaughter, Chelsea Potts, and 12 loving grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelda Drew Barrett and Riley Barrett, two brothers, D.C. and Tom Barrett, and three sisters, Wanda Ramache, Thelma Jean Austin and Hyla Wathem. He attended Winslow High School, and then went on to play basketball at Oakland City University. He served as a police officer with Russell Springs and Jamestown Police Departments, he was a former deputy jailer with the Russell County Jail, Ray served as Russell Springs City Council, Police Commissioner and Commissioner over the Russell Springs City Park. He loved coaching Little League baseball and basketball. He attended the Solid Rock Tabernacle Church in Russell Springs. Ray enjoyed Thoroughbred horse racing and was very involved in car sales and auctions and enjoyed playing cards. Expressions of sympathy are requested to be in a form of a contribution to Martin Cemetery and may be left at Wilson Funeral Home in Russell Springs or Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, Indiana Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
