Fish 'free' without a license this weekend, June 4 and 5 The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) offers this free fishing weekend in which no Kentucky fishing license is required for residents and non-residents to fish. The free fishing weekend is the kick-off event in celebration of National Fishing and Boating Week that runs from June 4-12, 2005 nationwide. Between 35-40 fishing events will be held during free fishingweekend throughout Kentucky, sponsored by various organizations andagencies. There will be fishing events on Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5at the Game Farm off U.S. 60 in Frankfort, sponsored by the KDFWR. KDFWRhas introduced thousands of kids to fishing through its annual June fishingevents over the years, and by assisting Kentucky State Parks, local fishingclubs and other groups in both urban and rural areas in hosting Free FishingWeekend events. At the Game Farm, children aged 15 years and under may fish from 5-8:30 p.m. on June 4 and from sunrise until 10:30 a.m. on June 5. After 10:30 a.m. on June 5, the public may fish for free. A special stocking of fish in the Game Farm Lake should provide good fishing for those youth attending the event. Parents are encouraged to register their youngsters, which makes the kids eligible for prizes to be awarded by random drawing. All normal fishing regulations, such as minimum size and daily creellimits, are still in effect statewide for the free fishing weekend.Participants are strongly encouraged to pick up the 2005 Kentucky SportFishing and Boating Guide available for free wherever licenses are sold, orgo on-line at fw.ky.gov to check all current fishing and boating regulationson the waters you visit.
