Russell McGaha, 90, Columbia, KY (1931-2021)

Russell McGaha of Columbia passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at his daughter's residence in Campbellsville, KY. He was 90 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 6097.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue on Wednesday morning until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.


He was born in Adair County, KY on November 17, 1931 to the late Curtis and Bessie Holt McGaha. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Maxine McGaha.

Mr. McGaha was a member of the New Hope Separate Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army. He was a former Goodyear Tire Dealer in Columbia, worked at Fruit of the Loom and Westlake Regional Hospital. He was proud of his service to his country and a very patriotic man. He collected Mopar vehicles and enjoyed reading.

Survivors include three children Ronnie McGaha (Sheila) of Russell Springs, KY, Teresa Benningfield (Lynn) of Campbellsville, KY and Connie Richerson of Campbellsville, KY; five grandchildren Chrystal Graham (Bobby), Candace Craig, Shelly Rose, Keila Sullivan (Joe) and Mark Richerson (Meaghan); seven great grandchildren Evan Graham, Drake Graham, Zoe Graham, Liam Rose, Luke Richerson, Austin Sullivan, Dillan Sullivan and Clayton Lindsey; three great great grandchildren Easton Sullivan, Waverly Sullivan and Aslynn Copley; three siblings Nelda Miles of Louisville, Doyce McBride and Bernice Dare both of Indiana; a sister-in-law Barbara McGaha and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by five siblings Edith Tuttle, Calvin McGaha, Lyda Holt, Tommy Martin and Alene Wilson.
